Partner Profile Newton, Massachusetts is a city of over 85,000 people located just outside of Boston. Newton's Energy Action Plan calls for a commitment to purchase 10 percent of all City buildings' electricity requirements from green power sources by 2010. The plan reflects Mayor David B. Cohen's belief that "renewable energy is the only sustainable energy policy for our future." Newton presently purchases 787 million kWh of renewable energy certificates, representing 3 percent of the City's buildings annual electric load. In addition, 54 kW of PV have been installed on Newton South High School and 60 kW are in construction on the city's new North High School project.
