Compton Gamma-Ray Observatory (CGRO)
The Compton Gamman-Ray Observatory was launched on April 5, 1991. The
second of NASA's great observatories, CGRO has four instruments that cover
an unprecedented six orders of magnitude in energy, from 30 keV to 30 GeV.
This range improves the sensitivity of previous missions by a full order of
magnitude. The Laboratory has three areas of involvement with the CGRO:
the EGRET team manages the monitoring and processing of data for the EGRET
instrument; responsibility for spectroscopy analysis software for the BATSE
instrument; and management of the GRO Science Support Center to support the
guest investigator program.
