The National Council for Economic Education (NCEE) promotes economic and financial literacy among K-12 students to help them develop skills they need to become knowledgeable consumers, savers, investors, and effective participants in a global economy.

NCEE provides economic and financial literacy programs through its network of State Councils and over 200 University based centers, mainly by training teachers. Through its extensive network, NCEE annually trains thousands of teachers who have reached millions of students.

NCEE also reaches out to other educational organizations that promote economic and financial literacy to establish partnerships to help them expand their programs and develop new ones. NCEE also seeks to support state and local providers of economic, financial, and entrepreneurship education; sponsor activities to foster more research in financial and economic education programs; and encourage professional development among K-12 educators.

As stipulated by the Excellence in Economic Education Program legislation, NCEE conducts annual competitions to fund approximately 90 subgrants. Eligible subgrantees organizations include: state educations agencies, local educational agencies, and State or local economic, personal finance or entrepreneurial education organization. The subgrants will be awarded in one or more of the following categories:

  • Teacher Training Workshops;
  • School-based Student Activities;
  • Distribution of Curriculum and Teaching Materials;
  • Replication of Best Practices;
  • Economic and Financial Literacy Research; and
  • Evaluations of Impact of Economic and Financial Literacy Education on Students.
