Data Analyst and Information Specialist Position Filled
 
Renee Davis-Born began a job rotation with OWEB’s Monitoring and Reporting Program in September. She will assemble, maintain, and distribute information that supports implementation of the Oregon Plan for Salmon and Watersheds. Renee comes to OWEB from the Institute for Natural Resources based at Oregon State University (OSU). There, she served most recently as project manager for the Oregon Explorer program (www.oregonexplorer.info). After earning her Master’s degree at OSU, Renee worked as a watershed council coordinator. In her new position at OWEB, she will gather, analyze, and synthesize data, particularly focusing on distributing data currently unavailable at both the local and statewide levels. We are very pleased to have Renee aboard.

2007 June
Monitoring and Reporting GIS Specialist Hired
 
Ashley Seim was hired in June as the GIS Analyst for the Monitoring and Reporting Program.  She will be providing GIS and website management for OWEB.  Ashley has an MPA from Portland State University and in her last position spent two years as a Water Resource GIS Technician for Clean Water Services in Hillsboro.  Prior to that, Ashley worked at PSU on websites and other information management programs.  In her new position, Ashley will have the responsibility to develop and maintain natural resource information that supports implementation of the Oregon Plan for Salmon and Watersheds.  We are especially excited about the services and tools Ashley will provide to Watershed Councils and Soil and Water Conservation Districts. 
 

2006 June
Pacific Coast Salmon Recovery Fund Link
 
A new link was added to OWEB Monitoring and Reporting Resources under M&R data.  OWEB is providing data to the National Marine Fisheries Service’s Pacific Coast Salmon Recovery Funds database.  This database includes project, fiscal and habitat restoration information.  An Interactive Mapping Tool is provided for spatial data.  You may also query for salmon recovery projects located in California, Washington, Idaho and Alaska.
 
 
 

2006 May
Watershed Monitoring Data Assistant Hired
 
Jeni Gutherum, an Oregon State University undergraduate, studying Housing Studies, was hired in May as the Watershed Monitoring Data Assistant. She will be assisting with entering and analyzing the 2005 restoration data for the Oregon Watershed Restoration Inventory. This information, when compiled, will inform NOAA Fisheries, the Oregon Legislature, and the Oregon Plan biennial report on the expenditure of federal funds, state funds and accomplishments to improve conditions for Oregon's salmon and watersheds. We are thrilled to have Jeni on board!
 
 
 

2006 January
Effectiveness Monitoring Specialist Hired
 
OWEB is pleased to announce it has hired Courtney Shaff as its Effectiveness Monitoring Specialist in January. She will be working towards the implementation of OWEB's effectiveness monitoring program through coordination with watershed councils, SWCDs, and private, tribal, state, and federal organizations.
 
Courtney recently finished her M.S. in Environmental Sciences at Oregon State University where she evaluated the effectiveness of salmon carcass placement and large wood as tools to increase juvenile coho growth in the Oregon Coast Range.
 
Previously, Courtney worked with the Tualatin Riverkeepers and Citizens for a Healthy Bay in Tacoma, WA on a variety of project implementation and monitoring efforts, outreach, and volunteer coordination activities.
