Annual Performance Measures

Who We Are

The Emergency Medical Services program develops and regulates systems that provide quality emergency care to victims of sudden illness or traumatic injury.

Why We're Here

The program ensures that responders are fully trained, that emergency vehicles are properly equipped, and emergency systems are functioning efficiently and effectively.

What We're Doing
  • Setting standards, approving course work, testing and certifying emergency medical technicians.
  • Delivering emergency medical training to small, remote areas that do not have educational resources through the Mobile Training Unit and distance learning.
  • Inspecting and licensing ambulances and ambulance services.
  • Enforcing professional standards for emergency medical technicians and ambulance services.
  • Designating, categorizing and evaluating trauma systems.
The Difference We're Making
  • The program certifies approximately 8,000 emergency medical technicians who work for 149 ambulance agencies.
  • The program assures the standards of the trauma system are followed, which has resulted in a decrease of approximately 25% preventable deaths pre-trauma system to a current 1-5% preventable deaths (depending on area).
  • In one year the Mobile Training Unit visited 185 communities and provided 5,412 hours of training to 1,830 individuals.
