Southern Hemisphere
Wheat Availability* Drops... But Record Argentine Exports
Forecast
*Export availability is
defined as carryin stocks, plus production, less domestic
utilization.
Major southern hemisphere wheat exporters
are expected to have reduced exportable availability this year,
as Australia's production shortfall will only be partially offset
by a record Argentine crop. Exportable supplies are largely
dependent on production as both countries traditionally hold
relatively small stocks.
Argentina is expected to remain the dominant supplier to its
traditional Latin American markets especially Brazil, and will
have sufficient supplies to make sales into Middle Eastern and
North African markets. Argentina has reportedly already made
large new crop sales to Iran and Iraq. Australia is expected to
concentrate on its traditional markets in Asia and reduce sales
to those markets it recently expanded into when it had larger
production.
