| Annual Performance Measures The Oregon Department of Human Services has developed a plan with 15 strategies for communities to use to reduce youth suicide. State Agency Team: The Health Services's Youth Suicide Prevention Coordinator is convening a State Agency Team to provide local communities with technical assistance and coordinate state level activities. Community Action: Communities throughout Oregon are organizing networks and coalitions to implement youth suicide prevention strategies from the Oregon Youth Suicide Prevention Plan. Strategies: The Oregon Youth Suicide Prevention plan outlines 15 strategies to reduce youth suicide. Efforts to reduce suicide rates show the most promise when multiple strategies are implemented simultaneously. There are many paths to suicidal behavior. Risk and protective factors and their interactions form the scientific base for suicide prevention. Risk factors are associated with a greater potential for suicide and suicidal behavior, while protective factors are associated with reduced potential. The presence of multiple risk factors in adolescents is linked to a dramatic increase in the probability of having made a suicide attempt. Significant reductions in Oregon's youth suicide rate will require integrated efforts to produce long-term, system-wide changes. Publications
