  • Sep 19, 2008 - Texas Continues Efforts to Rebuild Communities and Lives
    AUSTIN – Gov. Rick Perry today encouraged displaced Texans to remain patient as the state continues to make progress restoring its communities and readying its neighborhoods for residents’ safe return home. To date, power has been restored to more than half of the customers who lost electricity during Hurricane Ike. Additionally, the fuel industry is reporting that more than 75 percent of retail stations have resumed operations and nearly 100 percent of terminals are operating.
     
  • Sep 18, 2008 - Gov. Perry Issues Disaster Declaration For Presidio County
    AUSTIN - Gov. Rick Perry tonight issued a disaster declaration and requested a presidential disaster declaration for Presidio County in response to floods threatening lives and homes the area. An excess release of water from reservoirs in northern Mexico following periods of heavy rain has caused a levee breach along the Rio Grande River threatening Presidio County.

    AUSTIN – Gov. Rick Perry today thanked utility company officials for their extraordinary efforts at restoring electricity to customers in the Hurricane Ike ravaged communities and promised the state will do all it can to help get power back on.
     
  • Sep 16, 2008 - Gov. Perry: Texas Takes Steps to Accelerate Relief Efforts
    AUSTIN – Gov. Rick Perry today issued an emergency proclamation authorizing public utility companies in Texas to speed relief and recovery efforts by laying temporary electric transmission lines to restore power lost as a result of Hurricane Ike. Perry also met with President Bush during his visits to Houston and Galveston to survey storm-affected areas.
     
  • Sep 15, 2008 - Gov. Perry Visits Communities Impacted By Ike
    AUSTIN – Gov. Rick Perry today visited Orange, one of the areas most heavily impacted by Hurricane Ike’s landfall, followed by a visit to an Austin shelter to meet with evacuees and local officials. He emphasized that search and rescue (SAR) efforts are ongoing and that the state is working diligently with local officials and private sector partners to fully restore essential services, including power, water and fuel. The governor also urged residents who are currently in shelters to remain there until local officials have deemed it safe to return home.

    AUSTIN – Gov. Rick Perry today surveyed Hurricane Ike storm damage from the air before visiting Galveston Island and Ellington Airfield to visit with local emergency management officials.
     
  • Sep 13, 2008 - Gov. Perry: Rescue Operations Underway in the Wake of Hurricane Ike
    AUSTIN – Gov. Rick Perry today announced that search and rescue (SAR) operations have begun in earnest after Hurricane Ike made landfall overnight on the Texas Coast. The Category 2 hurricane has caused extensive flooding and knocked out utilities in several Texas counties. The governor also urged Texans all along the storm’s path to remain vigilant.
