FY98-99 Great Lakes Priorities and Funding Guidance

1998 Great Lakes Guidance Preproposal Selection

Decisions on Preproposals have been made.

In November, 1997, GLNPO solicited preproposals for $4 million in projects to be funded during 1998. The requested funding categories were: habitat protection and restoration; contaminated sediments; pollution prevention; exotic species; and emerging issues. In response, 128 applicants submitted 230 preproposals, seeking $30.2 million. Following an extensive review process (including "Lake Teams" having State, Tribal, and other Federal participants) we are now requesting full proposals for 59 projects totaling $4.4 million.

Letters are being mailed to all Applicants to tell them whether their Preproposals have been selected for full proposals.

Final decisions on whether to fund particular projects will only be made upon receipt of the full proposals.

There may be some additional negotiation necessary regarding the projects and amounts. If a full proposal is requested, we will be sending you specific guidance along with a grant application kit.

Whenever possible, we have tried to match the projects for which applications are not being requested with other funding sources. Should you have questions concerning that follow-up effort or about GLNPO's review process, please contact the applicable person below:

  • Contaminated Sediments: Marc Tuchman (312) 353-1369
  • Exotic Species: Marc Tuchman (312) 353-1369
  • Habitat: Karen Holland (312) 353-2690
  • Pollution Prevention: Danielle Green (312) 886-7594
  • Assessment/Indicators: Paul Horvatin (312) 353-3612
  • Emerging Issues: Michael Russ (312) 886-4013

Thank you for your patience during this protracted review process. We sincerely apologize for the delays.

Contact: Michael Russ (312) 886-4013
