Senior Executive Service (SES)

The Senior Executive Service (SES) covers senior level managerial, supervisory, and policy positions. Candidates for SES positions must be certified by the Office of Personnel Management OR by the Secretary Health and Human Services. Federal executives earn a competitive salary and are eligible for performance bonuses of 5 to 20 percent of base pay for superior accomplishments.

Executives receive a defined benefit retirement plan and participate in a retirement savings investment plan that offers before tax savings and tax deferred investment earnings. View the Guide to the Senior Executive Service for additional information on pay and benefits available to federal executives.
