2003 Photography Judges
Joe Champ is a professor of journalism and
technical communication at Colorado State University, Fort Collins, CO, is
president of Champ Communication Research. Before his academic career, Joe
worked for 10 years as an award-winning news anchor, reporter, and photographer.
Barbara Menzel is a computer programmer for
the USDA Forest Service, Forest Management Service Center, Fort Collins, CO. She
has been an amateur photographer for nearly 15 years. A collection of Barb’s
photographs was recently showcased at a local photography lab.
Lane Eskew is an editor with the USDA
Forest Service, Rocky Mountain Research Station, Fort Collins, CO. Included in
his responsibilities is evaluating author photographs for publication. Lane’s
photographs have been published in outdoor magazines, books, brochures, and
other media.
2003 Safety Expert
Ed Hollenshead, the USDA Forest Service National Fire
Operations Safety Officer at the National Interagency Fire Center, Boise, ID.
Through his 30-year career, Ed has been actively
involved in wildland fire, serving in nearly every capacity from "ground-pounder"
to incident commander.
