March 10, 2005

A panel formed by the National Academy of Sciences to review research directed at the responsible development of nanotechnology under the National Nanotechnology Initiative (NNI) including occupational health research will meet on March 24-25 in Washington, DC.

NIOSH invites its stakeholders to attend the meeting and provide input to the review. More information, including times and location, is available online at www4.nas.edu/webcr.nsf/MeetingDisplay5/NMAB-J-04-03-A?OpenDocument.

Specifically, the panel is charged to evaluate the funding levels at government agencies participating in the NNI, the ability of each agency to achieve the program stated goals with that funding and to recommend policy, program and budget changes with respect to nanotechnology research and development activities. Further information about NNI can be found at www.nano.gov. NIOSH efforts in nanotechnology are described on the NIOSH Nanotechnology topic page. www.cdc.gov/niosh/topics/nanotech/
