Summer 2006 Weather in the Grand Valley

As the Summer winds down, let’s look back at the weather in the Grand Valley. Meteorological Summer (June/July/August) started out warm and dry and, due to an early beginning of the Monsoon, ended wetter with near normal temperatures. Overall, the average daily temperature for the Summer was 76.8°, 2.6 degrees above normal. The total precipitation was 2.68 inches, 0.77 inches above normal for the three months.

Eight days saw high temperatures in the triple digits, two less than in the Summer of 2005. The 100+ temperature days were in June and July, while the highest temperature to occur in August was only 95°.  The warmest afternoon temperature was 104° on July 16th, while the coolest morning low was 48° on August 27nd.

67 days saw high temperatures of > 90° (the normal is 59).

The Summer saw a total of 1110 cooling degree day units, 66 more than average.
