June Wind, Cold and Snow

An unseasonably cold and windy storm system swept through eastern Utah and western Colorado on Wednesday, June 6th.  Winds gusting in excess of 50 mph were common throughout the region, with a few reports in excess of 70 mph reported.  The strongest wind gust of the day belonged to Eagle, Colorado, where the wind topped out at an astonishing 92 mph.  Some damage was reported throughout the region, including downed telephone poles and trees.

Once the winds swept through, temperatures dropped off significantly, with several record low temperatures reported Thursday morning.  See DENPNSGJTDENRERGJT and DENLSRGJT for a list of record lows and strong winds and be sure to check previous versions near the top of the reports.

Finally, the cold temperatures brought some very late season SNOW to the Colorado High Country with upwards of 10 inches reported over the mountains near Steamboat Springs.
