The State Board of Clinical Social Workers was created in 1979 by the Legislature, and is authorized by ORS 675.510-675.600.
Mission Statement
The mission of the Board is to protect the citizens of Oregon through the licensing and regulation of clinical social workers. This is done by certifying clinical social work associates working toward licensing through a two-year Plan of Supervision, which is monitored by the Board through Six-month Evaluation Reports from the supervisors; licensing clinical social workers from other jurisdictions; investigating consumer complaints against clinical social work associates or Licensed Clinical Social Workers; monitoring impaired clincal social work associates or Licensed Clinical Social Workers to insure safe practice; granting, denying or reinstating licenses; and requiring continuing education of Licensed Clinical Social Workers.

Annual Performance Measures

The Board is composed of four Licensed Clinical Social Workers and three public members. The Board regulates clinical social workers by certifying associates working toward licensure through two-year Plans of Supervision, and licenses clinical social workers by means of a national examination with a self-test on Oregon laws and rules. The Board sets policy, writes and adopts rules, renews licenses annually, and audits continuing education as a part of the renewal process. The Board has the authority to discipline licensees, to deny, suspend, revoke, or refuse to renew a certificate or license. Monthly Board meetings are held in Salem and are open to the public.
