To contain the spread of a contagious illness, public health authorities rely on many strategies. This broadcast will provide information to state and local health department personnel and other stakeholders on two strategies, isolation and quarantine, that are used to control Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS).
Goal
To provide the public health community information and guidance on containment of SARS.

Objectives
Upon successful completion of the course, participants will be able to:
  • Describe key strategies for containing the spread of SARS.
  • Explain the current guidelines for instituting quarantine and/or isolation strategies.
  • Determine appropriate action steps needed to carry out SARS-related isolation or quarantine measures.
  • Determine appropriate support systems needed to carry out SARS-related isolation or quarantine measures.
Target Audience
Public health workforce, including state and local public health officials, public health advisors, community-based outreach workers, and infection control professionals.

This activity for 1.2 contact hours is provided by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, which is accredited as a provider of continuing education in nursing by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditations.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is a designated provider of continuing education contact hours (CECH) in health education by the National Commission for Health Education Credentialing, Inc.
