USA    LITERATURE  in  BRIEF

This publication provides a historical overview of American literature, up to the beginning of the 21st Century, as well as short profiles of the major writers -- fiction, nonfiction, drama, and poetry.

Produced for teachers and students of English and literature and readers with an interest in this subject, this publication, is based on a more extensive overview, the Outline of American Literature. ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Kathryn VanSpanckeren, professor of English at the University of Tampa, has lectured in American literature widely abroad, and is former director of the Fulbright-sponsored Summer Institute in American Literature for international scholars. Her publications include poetry and scholarship. She received her Bachelors degree from the University of California, Berkeley, and her Ph.D. from Harvard University.
