Welcome to Accessible Chicago

Welcome to Accessible Chicago -- Taking the guesswork out of traveling in Chicago with a wheelchair.

The memories of taking our daughter, a wheelchair user, to Chicago served as the inspiration for Accessible Chicago. As as special needs parent, I found disability travel very empowering. The trips taught me important lessons about the "degrees" of accessibility; the site is where I, and you, can share this knowledge. Our free on-line guide for people with special needs removes the stress of finding the right parking garage or a wheelchair accessible hotel in Chicago. With the second release of our site, we added new features to allow for an interactive, community-based experience. User Polling, Forums and the ability to add your own comments are just a few of the new features to help us know what matters most to you. Just browse the site, find what you need, and go enjoy Chicago!

New to the site? Our five star rating system evaluates the accessibility of an attraction. Browse the Resources and Getting Around Chicago listings to help you meet your lifestyle needs in and around Chicagoland. Also, please take a minute to Register. This way, you can post your thoughts on an attraction or share a new resource with us.

Enjoy the site, and enjoy Chicago!

We went to the Goodman Theater today to check out Dicken's A Christmas Carol. The show was terrific, and despite a few bumps along the way, were very pleased with the accessibility of the Goodman. After ordering wheelchair accomodating seating back in September, we received the tickets in the mail that read: :A seat will be removed for your convenience and accessibility. We arrived early about a half hour before the 2:00 pm. show. and had to wait 15 minutes while the Goodman staff.

Even though crowds lined up to be seated at this restaurant, the courteous waitstaff sat us immediately. With great Mexican food, hokey birthday celebrations and grande margaritas, this place is our family favorite.
