About the Partnership
The NOAA/National Fish and Wildlife Foundation Habitat
Restoration Partnership began in 2001. This new partnership
built on existing cooperative efforts between NFWF
and NOAA Fisheries that began in 1995 and funded over
75 restoration and educational efforts. During the
first three-year partnership, $5.3 million of NOAA
funds were matched 1:1 by National Fish and Wildlife
Foundation to conduct more than 150 restoration projects
benefitting a wide range of species and habitats. Currently,
the funding is distributed nationally and regionally
through a series of NFWF funding initiatives including:

NFWF Great Lakes Watershed Restoration Program Grants
NOAA is partnering with the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation, the
Environmental Protection Agency, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, and
U.S.D.A. Forest Service to fund the Great Lakes Watershed Restoration
Program. This is a new program designed to demonstrate real,
on-the-ground commitment to improving water
quality and ecological health of the Great Lakes Basin. Funding will
focus on habitat restoration, water quality improvements, watershed
planning and management, applied research, and conservation education.
A total of
more than $700,000 will be available for grants ranging from $35,000 to
$100,000. Please see http://www.nfwf.org/programs/greatlakes/index.cfm
for more information.

Chesapeake Bay Small Watershed
Grants Program
The Chesapeake
Bay Small Watershed Grants Program funds community
groups on a competitive basis to restore wetland and
riparian habitats and improve water quality within
the
Chesapeake Bay ecosystem. Grants typically range in
size from $5,000 - $50,000. Proposals should be
directed towards on-the-ground projects that restore
coastal (e.g., salt marshes, seagrass beds, oyster
reefs)
and anadromous fish habitats (e.g. riparian restoration,
dam removal, culvert replacement).

Pinellas County Environmental
Fund
The Pinellas County Environmental Fund promotes
conservation, protection, restoration and enhancement
of fish and wildlife habitat around Tampa Bay, Florida.
The fund supports activities that educate the local
public and stakeholders, forge partnerships between
government and local organizations and schools, and
develop creative and sustainable solutions to natural
resource challenges. Examples of previously funded
projects
include invasive species removal, seagrass restoration,
creation of public displays to reduce seabird injuries,
and barrier removal to restore tidal circulation.
Funding from the foundation is offered in two cycles, which means that pre-proposals for projects are
requested twice per year. Updates to this page will be made as funding is made available.

Delaware Estuary Grants Program
This program provides grants to organizations working on a local level to protect and improve watersheds in the Delaware Estuary, while building citizen-based resource stewardship. The purpose of the grants program is to address the living resource and water quality needs of the Delaware Estuary ecosystem. The Grants Program has been designed to encourage the development and sharing of innovative ideas among the many organizations wishing to be involved in watershed protection activities. During the first five years of this partnership, the Restoration Center has contributed $350,000, funding several fish passage improvement projects, riparian restoration, and community-based oyster restoration projects.

The Pacific Grassroots Salmon Initiative (PGSI) supports restoration projects in California, Oregon and Alaska that restore threatened and endangered salmon and steelhead stocks. Individual grant awards range from $25,000 - $75,000. Project types include those that improve estuarine habitat, restore in-stream and riparian habitat, improve fish passage, remove invasive species and restore spawning and rearing habitats. Proposals for restoration projects are encouraged to have a high degree of public/private collaboration, occur in priority watersheds, target key fish populations, and use technically defensible methods.
