Former football players keep Rice's water flowing

With Hurricane Ike wreaking havoc on Houston, Rice was forced to rely on its emergency water supply. The tricky part was getting to it. Needing to replace a motor that pumps water from its alternative source, the school found two former Rice football players with a 2,500-pound solution.

More than a week after Hurricane Ike blew through town, Rice has made a remarkable return to normalcy. Classes have resumed and cleanup crews have restored some of the scenic views around campus. With its quick recovery from the storm, Rice effectively demonstrated the university's commitment to its students and the community.
