ABOUT US

[Photograph]:  Prarie City, Oregon.Scientists in the Human and Natural Resources Interactions Program study the economic and social aspects of natural resource management. Our scientists include economists, foresters, social scientists, and forest product technologists. Our research is conducted out of offices in Juneau and Sitka, AK; Seattle, WA; and Portland and Corvallis, OR.

 

 

 

 

 
RESEARCH AREAS

- Understanding the social values regarding rural communities and development.


- Determining the feasibility of ecosystem restoration activities.


- Developing analytical tools for assessing silvicultural practices and the joint production of timber and nontimber forest products.


- Projecting timber resources at regional and national scales.


- Analyzing supply and demand trends and reporting market variables.


- Integrating public concerns, uses, and values into natural resource policies.
