King County performance reporting wins national awards, honored by King County Council

performance measurement groupToday the King County Council recognized County Executive Ron Sims and the Executive Branch for recent accomplishments in performance measurement designed to ensure that King County residents receive the best services available.

"These awards and recognition signify our progress in demonstrating accountability and transparency in King County government locally and on a national level," said King County Executive Ron Sims. "Our commitment to regularly reviewing performance information with King County departments through our process called ‘KingStat' helps us provide the highest quality services for residents."

Recognizing excellence in government accountability, public transparency and performance reporting, the Association of Government Accountants awarded King County with the prestigious national Certificate of Excellence in Service Efforts and Accomplishments Award for two accountability reports.

The award-winning reports are King County's Executive Branch-produced King County AIMs High: Annual Indicators and Measures, available online at www.metrokc.gov/budget/2007/proposed/AIMs.pdf (PDF, 12.61 MB), and the Department of Natural Resources and Parks' Measuring for Results, available at http://dnr.metrokc.gov/dnrp/performance/.

In 2007, King County also received a "Trailblazer" grant award from the Center on Municipal Government Performance of the National Center for Civic Innovation as one of the leading edge governments who are advancing innovations in citizen-informed performance measurement and reporting.

The KingStat performance management program was launched in 2006 to regularly monitor and assess the performance of Executive Branch departments. An element of KingStat, detailed reviews of department business plans, helps ensure performance measures are more aligned with the budget process.
