STATEMENT OF U.S. SENATOR TRENT LOTT OF MISSISSIPPI REGARDING THE REPLACEMENT OF AMTRAK PRESIDENT DAVID GUNN
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Senator Trent Lott of Mississippi, chairman of the Surface Transportation and Merchant Marine Subcommittee, issued the following statement today:

“I am very disappointed to learn that Amtrak’s board of directors has voted to replace David Gunn as president. David Gunn has worked very hard to reform Amtrak and has done an excellent job under very difficult circumstances and without sufficient support or funding. Today’s action is a step backward for the National Rail Passenger System.”
