About Monthly Labor Review Online

Established in 1915, Monthly Labor Review is the principal journal of fact, analysis, and research from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, an agency within the U.S. Department of Labor. Each month, economists, statisticians, and experts from the Bureau join with private sector professionals and State and local government specialists to provide a wealth of research in a wide variety of fields—the labor force, the economy, employment, inflation, productivity, occupational injuries and illnesses, wages, prices, and many more.

To make the best use of the medium, Monthly Labor Review Online gives you the opportunity to read an abstract or an excerpt of each MLR article before you download the full text of the article. With each article, we provide links to related BLS programs (often to the program responsible for the research in the article), as well as links to related articles that are available online.

Abstracts and excerpts are provided in the standard language of the Web, HTML. They are meant for online scanning. The full text of each article is available in Adobe's Portable Document Format (PDF).

MLR Online includes an index of articles published since 1981 as well as an archive of past issues. We ask online visitors to bookmark the Current Issue page (which functions as our homepage), and check back monthly or more often as the need arises.

About PDF files

To view PDF files, you will need Adobe's Acrobat Reader, which you can download for free from Adobe's Web site. PDF files on this site are best viewed with Adobe Acrobat Reader 5.0 or higher. If you do not have this you may have trouble viewing or printing PDF's of Monthly Labor Review articles.

Beside each link to a PDF file, you will find a notation of the file size. The file size gives you an indication of the time required to download the file. PDF files of Monthly Labor Review articles typically take longer than other pages to download because they include more information.
