The TSC promotes integration among the many current and future scientific projects in the basin, prioritizing future research informed by a comprehensive science plan, creating an environment that promotes the contributions of the best available science, and emphasizing close cooperation with land and resource managers to facilitate the transfer of information in an effective manner.

  1. Science planning: Work with Lake Tahoe basin agencies to develop regional monitoring approaches for specific issue areas; these efforts will contribute to the larger goal of establishing a comprehensive monitoring strategy for Lake Tahoe basin resources, habitats, and the agents of change.
  2. Peer review: Administer the scientific peer review of research proposals, science products, or technical programs related to Lake Tahoe basin management and restoration.
  3. Technical assistance: Provide scientific input and technical advice to resource management agencies, including organization of one or more public workshops that target challenging resource management issues.
  4. Program management: Manage the day-to-day operations and communications of the TSC including interactions with the Federal Interagency Partnership and the Lake Tahoe Federal Advisory Committee; prepare quarterly progress reports.

Timeframe: February 2008 through February 2009 (1 year)

  2. Revised science plan for the Tahoe basin
  3. Peer review of proposals under the Tahoe Science Program funded by Southern Nevada Public Lands Management Act (SNPLMA)
  4. Completion of a forest management literature review and synthesis papers in cooperation with the Pacific Southwest Research Station
  5. Public workshop on vegetation management in sensitive areas
  6. Complete review of SNPLMA round 8 science proposals and Round 9 capital proposals, initial review of Round 9 science proposals
  7. Continued refinement and application of the TSC Website for knowledge transfer to agencies and the public
