A variety of activities and resources are available at Fire Island National Seashore to enhance your educational program. Please contact our Interpretation & Education staff at 631-687-4765, or e-mail us.

Park rangers provide an orientation and safety message for groups visiting Sailors Haven and the Sunken Forest.

A full-day Teachers' Workshop is scheduled for Saturday, May 3, 2008.

Registration is required, but the course and ferry trip to Sailors Haven are free.

Did You Know?
New York's state gem—the garnet—may be found among the sands that comprise Fire Island's beaches. Due to differences in size and weight of the grains of sand, you may sometimes see ribbons of garnet and magnatite among the white quartz, as the sand settles on the beach.
