Retail hardware stores register productivity gain

Output per hour of all persons grew at an above-average annual rate of 1.3 percent over the 1972– 86 period, reflecting strong demand and improvements in store operations.  Evidence of the cyclical influences on the retail hardware store industry can be seen in the four subperiods examined here.
