Slides 1–10, Contraceptive Logistics: the Backbone of Effective Family Planning Program

Contraceptive Logistics: the Backbone of Effective Family Planning Program

Contraceptive logistics is an essential activity in every family planning program. It is the logistics system that gets the contraceptives where they need to go and makes sure contraceptive supplies are always available for clients. If the logistics system fails and there are no contraceptives on hand, then the family planning activities will fail.

The logistics system

No stockouts

No stockouts

In a well-managed logistics system, outlets never run out of supplies. Supplies are monitored, and resupplies are ordered and arrive before stocks run out. This means that a full range of contraceptives is always available for the clients.

Motivated employees

Motivated employees

Employees do better work when they know that they have the supplies they need and that they do not have to disappoint their clients.  Logistics staff are motivated when they are well trained in logistics and are supported by their supervisors.
