Responsibilities
The Outreach and Information Division serves as the principal focus for management and transfer of air pollution control information; outreach to States, local governments, tribes, industry, small business, and the general public; and voluntary and innovative approaches to reduce air pollution. In carrying out these functions, the Division manages the design, development, maintenance, and evaluation of outreach programs and information systems (including hardware, software) to distribute key air pollution control information to government and non-government clients and the public at large. The Division also develops voluntary and innovative approaches to encourage pollution prevention and superior environmental performance over traditional regulatory approaches. This includes developing more flexible ways of implementing OAQPS regulations and programs. In cooperation with other Divisions and programs, the Division promotes the integration and simplification of information delivery and data management systems. The Division manages the national air quality programs for Indian Tribes and directs efforts to integrate OAQPS air pollution programs with community development and smart growth initiatives around the country. In addition, the Division manages a wide range of outreach efforts, including AirNow, and Enviroflash, and serves as an office-wide source for expertise on environmental justice. The Division develops the long-range communications and outreach strategy for OAQPS and develops strategies to market OAQPS programs to technical and non-technical audiences.
