SUBJECT: Delegation of Authority and Responsibility for Destruction of Security Items
 

1.    By virtue of the authority vested in me as Secretary of the Treasury, I hereby delegate authority for the destruction of United States security items as follows:

    a.    The Treasurer of the United States shall be responsible for the redemption and destruction of unfit currency, and the destruction of waste and spoiled items produced in printing currency, securities, postage stamps, worn out or obsolete plates, dies, bedpieces, and similar items and materials;

    b.    The Fiscal Assistant Secretary shall be responsible for the destruction of retired and unissued securities and coupons; and

    c.    The Under Secretary (Enforcement) shall review procedures issued pursuant to the delegations set forth above to ensure that such procedures meet security concerns.

2.    CANCELLATION. Treasury Order 135-01, "Delegation of Authority and Responsibility for Destruction of Security Items", dated November 7, 1988, is superseded.

3.    AUTHORITIES.   31 U.S.C. 321(b), 3112, 5119, and 5120.
