There are nearly 1000 transmitters on the air nationwide and around 275 stations in Southern Region. The NWR program has the distinction of providing warning information for all weather hazards that may affect the communities served by the local NWR broadcasts, as well as Non-Weather Emergency Messages that are disseminated on a state and/or national level. NWEMs, commonly known as Civil Emergency Messages (CEMs), will be sent through the NWS dissemination infrastructure, other national systems, and to the Emergency Alert System (EAS).
