January Climatological Extremes for Cheyenne



The graph above shows the ten snowiest Januarys in Cheyenne since 1915.  January 1980 had almost twice as much snow as January 1940, the second snowiest month.





As you can see from the above graph, no snow fell in Cheyenne in the January months of 1919 and 1952.  The graphs shows the ten least snowy Januarys since 1915.




The wettest January since 1915 occurred in 1949, when 2.78 inches of liquid were recorded.  January is typically one of the drier months of the year in Cheyenne.





The graph above shows the ten driest Januarys since 1915.  In both January 1919 and January 1952, no precipitation was recorded.





January can be a mild month as you can see from the above graph.  January 1986 was quite mild with an average temperature of 37.0 degrees Fahrenheit.  The average temperature is the average of the average high and average low temperatures.






January can also be a cold month, as you can see in the above graph.  The average temperature in January 1937 was only 12.7 degrees Fahrenheit, making it the coldest January since 1915 in Cheyenne.






You will see the top ten warmest Januarys in terms of average high temperatures in the above graph.  The average high temperature for January 1986 was 48.3 degrees Fahrenheit, making this January the warmest in Cheyenne since 1915.





January 1930 was indeed a cold January in terms of high temperatures.  The average high temperature for the entire month of January 1930 was only 23.1 degrees Fahrenheit, as seen in the graph above.





In the above graph, you can see the top ten warmest Januarys since 1915, in terms of average low temperatures.  The average low temperature in January 1986 was 25.6 degrees Fahrenheit, making it the warmest January in terms of average low temperatures.




In the above graph, you will see the ten coldest Januarys since 1915, in terms of average low temperatures.  The average low temperature in January 1937 was only 0.7 degrees Fahrenheit, which is the coldest on the list above.
