Dec 4: Bitter cold temperatures were felt across southeast Wyoming on this day in
1992. Record lows set on that day included 10 below zero near Centennial,
-12 near Elk Mountain, -20 at Laramie, and 26 degrees below zero at Rawlins.
Dec 5: Another arctic air outbreak covered the region on this day in 1972, with
Cheyenne recording a low of 26 degrees below zero. On the other extreme,
Cheyenne’s warmest day in December occurred on this day in 1939 with a
high of 69 degrees.
A 5 day snow event over southeast Wyoming came to an end on this day in
1913. Some snowfall totals for the period included 21 inches in Cheyenne,
23.1 inches near Centennial, WY, and 24 inches at Chugwater, WY.
Dec 6: The 1972 arctic outbreak firmed it’s grip over the region with many record
lows set on this day. Lows from -15 to -25 were common across southeast
Wyoming and the Nebraska panhandle, with a low of 31 degrees below zero
recorded at Medicine Bow, WY.
Laramie WY. was buried under 13.0 inches of snow on this day in 1956.
Dec 7: Scottsbluff has measured snow on this day 27 times since 1893, Scottsbluff’s
second highest daily frequency of snow, second only to March 14th.
Dec 8: A winter storm system brought a general 3 to 6 inches of snow to the region on
this day in 2003. Cheyenne received 5.6 inches of snow while 7 inches fell in
Scottsbluff.
Cheyenne also recorded 8.6 inches of snow on this day in 1958, while 6 inches
was recorded in Carpenter, WY.
Cheyenne equaling it’s coldest temperature ever for December with a low of
28 degrees below zero. Other lows for that day included 32 below at Scottsbluff,
and 34 degrees below zero at Kimball, Nebraska.
Scottsbluff recorded it’s greatest daily precipitation on record in December on
this day in 1918 when almost an inch (0.97) of mostly rain was measured.
