Aug 27 - Sep 2 in Area Weather History

Aug 27: Scottsbluff reached a high of 106 degrees on this day way back in 1898, which
               remains their warmest August temperature on record. 

Aug 28: On this day in 2002 a severe thunderstorm produced a tornado which tracked from
               4 miles west of Burns, Wyoming, to about 2 miles southwest of Burns.  The tornado
               remained over rural areas but did cause some damage. 

               Another severe thunderstorm produced hail up to 1 ¼ inches in diameter over the
               extreme north side of Cheyenne on this day in 1989.

Aug 29: A severe thunderstorm produced 1.75 inch diameter hail and very heavy rain over
               parts of Cheyenne on this day in 1996, flooding some basements on the north side
               of town and causing about 2.4 million in damage.   Further east, Sidney, Nebraska
               was flooded with up to 5 inches of rain.

               The warmest daily average temperature on record for Scottsbluff occurred on this
               day in 1898 with an average of 85.5 degrees. 

Aug 30: High winds blew through Cheyenne on this day in 1980 with a peak gust of 81 mph
              
recorded. 

Aug 31: The lowest record daily rainfall in August for Cheyenne occurred on this day in
               1963 when 0.30 inch fell.  All other days in August have had more rainfall at some
                time. 

 Sep  1:  Cheyenne’s warmest temperature ever recorded for the month of September occurred
                on this day in 1995 when a high of 95 degrees was reached.

 Sep  2:  Scottsbluff’s greatest daily rainfall ever recorded in September occurred on this day
                in 1951 when 2.56 inches fell.  Not too far behind, 2.28 inches of rain also fell in
                Scottsbluff on this day in 1938.
