This week (July 9-15) in Area Weather History

July  9:  On this day in 1989, Scottsbluff recorded its last of 9 consecutive days with
               a high temperature of at least 100 degrees, Scottsbluff’s longest 100 degree
               streak on record.

July 10: On this day in 1936, it was Chadron that recorded its last of 9 consecutive days
                with a high temperature of at least 100 degrees, their all-time record. 

July 11:  It was an extremely hot day across much of the region on this day in 1939.
               
All-time record highs of 110 and 100 degrees were set in Scottsbluff and
                Cheyenne, respectively, while Kimball set its all-time high with 106. Chadron
                recorded its 3rd warmest day on record with a high of 110 degrees. 

July 12:  Another very hot day occurred on this date in 1954, with a high of 105 recorded
                in Douglas, and 98 degrees recorded in Rawlins, Wyoming.

July 13:  A severe thunderstorm produced hail up to an inch and a half in diameter in
                Cheyenne on this day in 1996, which resulted in about 4 million in damage.

July 14:  Today is one of only 4 days in the history of Cheyenne that the temperature has
 
                reached 100 degrees.  It occurred on this day way back in 1881. 

                 On this day in 1948, 2.53 inches of rain fell in Scottsbluff, its greatest daily rain
                 for July on record.

July 15:  Chadron recorded its likely all-time record high on this day in 2006 with a high of
                112 degrees, while Alliance set its second hottest day on record with a high of 107.
                Many other locations over the western Nebraska panhandle had highs around 105
                as well.

                Storms produced rainfall in excess of 3 inches an hour in the Scottsbluff/Gering
                area on this day in 1994.  Over 200 homes were flooded with damage around 1.1
                million.

                A severe thunderstorm produced hail from 2.5 to 4.5 inches in diameter just
                southwest of Crawford, Nebraska on this day in 1993.

                The hottest day on record for Kimball, Nebraska was set on this day in 1934 when
                the temperature topped out at 110 degrees.

                For the 2nd day in a row Cheyenne recorded a temperature of 100 degrees on this
                day in 1881.
