This Week (May 14-20) in Area Weather History

May 14:  Today is on average the last day of the season for measurable snow in
                 locations such as Cheyenne and Laramie.                     

May 15:  On this day in 1991 severe storms moved across parts of eastern Laramie
                county.  Hail up to 1 inch in diameter fell in Cheyenne, while hail 3 ½ inches
                in diameter was reported about 7 miles northeast of Cheyenne.  Wind gusts
                to 77 mph were recorded 29 miles northeast of Cheyenne.

                Today is the average last freeze date in Spring for Kimball, Nebraska.               

May 16:  A late season storm brought 10 inches of snow to Cheyenne on this day in
                1943.                                                      

May 17:  Today is the average last freeze date in Spring for Cheyenne, Wyoming.               

May 18:  A winter-like storm system began over the region on this date in 1915. It
                produced 11.8 inches of snow in Scottsbluff, Nebraska by the end of the day,
                with 5.0 inches of snow recorded in Cheyenne.             

May 19:  The winter-like storm of 1915 ended on this day.  Total snowfall from the storm
                included  7 inches at Chadron, Nebraska, 8.0 inches in Cheyenne, and an impressive
                17.6 inches in Scottsbluff.

May 20:  0.16 inch of precipitation fell in Cheyenne on this day in 1935.  It turned out to be
                the last of 14 consecutive days that at least a hundredth of an inch /0.01/ of
                precipitation was recorded in Cheyenne, which still stands as the all-time record
                for the most consecutive number of days with measurable precipitation in Cheyenne.
                Total precipitation during that 14 day period was 3.24 inches.
