A Major Change in the Weather for Tonight and Sunday

Very mild and windy conditions can be expected today over southeast Wyoming and the western Nebraska panhandle.  Highs will be well above normal values and will approach records for the date in many places.  In addition, west winds will gust as high as 55 MPH over and near the southeast Wyoming mountains today.

A Pacific storm system will move across the Rockies tonight and Sunday.  The result will be much cooler temperatures, periods of light snow and northwest winds gusting to 45 MPH.  New snowfall amounts will be as much as 5 to 9 inches in the Snowy and Sierra Madre ranges.  Over the lower elevations, 1 to 2 inches of new snow are possible, while less than an inch is expected over the western Nebraska panhandle.  The winds will create areas of blowing and drifting snow for the mountains.  A Snow and Blowing Snow Advisory is in effect for tonight and Sunday morning for the Snowy and Sierra Madre ranges, and a Wind Advisory is in effect Sunday for the western Nebraska panhandle.

Travelers and those with outdoor interests, including stock growers should be prepared for the return to cool, windy and wet weather.
