February 25 - March 2 in Area Weather History

Feb. 25:  Unusually early season thunderstorms have been recorded twice
                on this day in Cheyenne, once in 1951 and again in 1949.

Feb. 26:  On this day in 1987 a winter storm brought 9.8 inches of snow to
                 Scottsbluff, Nebraska.  This melted down to 0.86 inch of  liquid,
                 which still stands as the greatest daily precipitation for February
                 ever recorded in Scottsbluff.  The same storm also produced 6.4
                 inches of snow in Cheyenne.
          
Feb. 27:  A winter storm brought snow to much of southeast Wyoming on
                this day in 1912.  3 inches of snow had fallen on Cheyenne by the
                end of the day while 5 inches was reported near Wheatland, Wy.               

                6.2  inches of snow was recorded in Scottsbluff, Ne. on this day
                in 1978, while 6 inches of snow fell in Scottsbluff on this day in
                1900.

Feb. 28: On this day in 1979, it was the final of 95 consecutive days with
                at least 1 inch of snow on the ground in Chadron, Nebraska.
                This long streak began with a snow that occurred on the 25th of
                November, 1978.

                7 more inches of snow fell in Cheyenne on this day in 1912,
                bringing the total snowfall from that storm to 10 inches.

Feb. 29:  A couple of leap day snows affected the area back in the 20’s.
                Cheyenne received a 6.5 inch snowfall on this day in 1925, while
                Scottsbluff was covered with 5.5 inches of snow in 1925.

Mar.  1:  A minor snowstorm covered Cheyenne, Wy. with 4.4 inches of
               snow on this day in 1906, while 4.2 inches fell in Cheyenne on
               this day in 2002.

Mar.  2:  A cold period was coming to an end in Rawlins, WY. on this day
                in 1960.  It was the last of 10 consecutive days with a low
                temperature of zero or colder.

                On this day in 1943 Cheyenne recorded its lowest temperature
                ever in March, with a low of 21 degrees below zero.

                On this day in 1906 Scottsbluff, Ne. was covered with 8 inches of
                snow.
