Your senses are right. It has been quite cool so far in September in Rawlins, Laramie, Cheyenne, Chadron, Scottsbluff and Sidney. September 1-15, 2008 was the 2nd coldest average high temperature for Cheyenne since 1872!

 The table above shows the top ten coldest average temperatures during the period from September 1-15, the first half of September, since 1872.  As you can see, September 1-15 of this year has been the 3rd coldest such period in the past 137 years with an average temperature of 53.5 degrees.  You are right.  It has been quite cool so far in September.  Temperatures will be above normal the rest of this week.

 In the table above, you can see that the average high temperature for September 1-15, 2008 has been 65.0 degrees, making this period, the first half of September, the 2nd coldest such period in the 137 years since 1872.  The only colder period, in terms of average high temperatures, was the first half of September in 1929 when the average high temperature in Cheyenne was a refreshingly cool 60.1 degrees.

 As you can see in the table above, September 1st through 15th of 2008 was the 2nd coldest such period in Scottsbluff since 1893, quite a lot of years.  The coldest such period was the 55.5 degree average temperature from September 1-15 of 1929.

Sidney, Nebraska had the 2nd coolest September 1-15 period in 2008, in terms of average temperature, since 1948.  The coolest such period was the 56.6 degree average temperature from September 1-15, 1961.

As you can see in the table above, September 1-15, 2008 was the coldest such period in Chadron, Nebraska since 1895, which includes many years of data.  Quite refreshingly cool indeed.
