Your senses and perception have not deceived you.  It has been a warm July as July months go in Cheyenne. As you can see in the table above, July 1st through 31st, 2008 had an average temperature of 72.2 degrees, making this period the 7th warmest July in Cheyenne in the 137 years since 1872.  The warmest such period was July 2003 when the average temperature was 75.1 degrees.  Interestingly, notice how eight of the twenty warmest periods occurred from 2000 through 2008.  Perhaps this is due to the global heating effect.

It has been a warm July as well in terms of average high temperatures as you can see in the table above.  The average maximum temperature in July 2008 in Cheyenne was 88.1 degrees making this period the 7th warmest July in Cheyenne in the 137 years since 1872.  The warmest July was in 2003 when the average maximum temperature was 90.9 degrees.

Interestingly, notice how seven of the fifteen warmest periods occurred from 2000 through 2008.  Perhaps this is the global warming effect.

In terms of average minimum temperatures, in July 2008, the average minimum temperature has been 56.3 degrees, making this period the 21st warmest such period in Cheyenne since 1872.  The warmest average minimum temperature ever in July was 59.4 degrees in 1966. 

In July, 30 of the 31 days had average or above average temperatures.  Saturday July 12th was the only day with below average temperatures when the high was 77 degrees and the low was 45 degrees with an average temperature of 61 degrees.

As you can see in the table above, July 2008 tied with July 1877 for the driest July months ever in Cheyenne since 1871, a 138 year period.  Only 0.43 inches of rain fell in Cheyenne this July, which was 1.83 inches below normal.
