June 30: On this day in 2004 heavy rains over south Cheyenne produced significant
flooding and closed U.S. Highway 85 for a time. Heavy rain also fell in
Scottsbluff on this day in 1905, with 2.16 inches recorded there.
July 1: On this day in 1998 lightning struck a power line from a substation which resulted
in a loss of power to about one half of the city of Sidney, Nebraska.
On this day in 1994 a microburst over the south side of Cheyenne blew windows
out of 15 cars, with a gust to 59 mph recorded at the Cheyenne airport.
July 2: On this day in 1998 severe thunderstorms moved across portions of Morrill
and Kimball counties of Nebraska, and produced winds up to 80 mph in some
areas.
July 3: An unusual high wind event struck Cheyenne on this day in 1993, with a peak
gust of 79 mph recorded. Among other damage the winds ripped off the roof
of the new grandstand at the fairgrounds.
July 4: On this day in 2001 a severe hailstorm struck Scottsbluff, producing hail up to
3 inches in diameter. About 12 people were injured with damage estimated to
have been about 50 million.
On this day in 1915 Cheyenne recorded its coldest temperature on record for
July when the temperature bottomed out at 33 degrees.
Today is the day with the highest frequency of rain for Scottsbluff. Rain has
been recorded there on this day 53 times since 1893.
July 5: On this day in 1895 Scottsbluff recorded its lowest July temperature on record
with a low of 35 degrees.
July 6: On this day in 1994 a severe thunderstorm produced baseball sized hail in
Bridgeport, Neb., as well as a tornado that destroyed 3 houses northeast of
Bridgeport.
On this same day just two years earlier, in 1992, the Bridgeport area was struck
by severe storms that produced hail up to 3 inches in diameter just north of town.
