Mercury Research

EPA's Goal for 'Healthy Communities and Ecosystems'
"Protect, sustain, or restore the health of people, communities, and ecosystems using integrated and comprehensive approaches and partnerships."

Mercury Research - EPA issued the Clean Air Mercury Rule (CAMR) in March 2005. ORD's emphasis in this area includes research to reduce and prevent release of mercury into the environment, and providing a scientific foundation for evaluating the effectiveness of CAMR, and insights into identification of sources of mercury found in the environment. ORD's Mercury Research Program is described in a multi-year research plan: ORD Mercury MYP (2003 document) (pdf, 40pp, 404KB).

NERL's mercury research program is conducted to help ORD achieve one of its long term goals by providing a scientific understanding of the transport and fate of mercury from release to the receptor.
