Current or Planned Experiments 

  • Improved soil nitrate uptake by alfalfa.
  • On-farm estimates of soil N uptake and symbiotic dinitrogen fixation by alfalfa.
  • Development of inexpensive technique for flow-weighted water sampling.
  • Reducing subsurface tile drainage nitrate by narrow strips of perennials.
  • Large-scale test of phytofiltration to reduce nitrate loading of ground water.
  • Improved manure applications on alfalfa and corn silage.
