Census Bureau Hosts Kickoff Event for 2008 Dress Rehearsal
Stockton, Calif. (April 18)—Under Secretary for Economic Affairs Cynthia A. Glassman officially dedicated the local Census office in Stockton, Calif. The 2008 dress rehearsal is designed to fine tune the operations planned for the 2010 Census. San Joaquin County, including Stockton, is one of only two dress rehearsal sites in the nation. (More)

Hurricane Center Director Leads Six-City Tour in Caribbean to Raise Hurricane Awareness
Washington (April 18)—NOAA’s National Hurricane Center Director Bill Proenza is touring six cites this week on a U.S. Air Force Reserve WC-130J Hurricane Hunter aircraft as part of the 2007 Caribbean Hurricane Awareness Tour. The tour is designed to raise hurricane awareness and preparation and includes Cancun and Campeche, Mexico; Grand Cayman Island; Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic; St. Croix; and San Juan, Puerto Rico. Secretary Gutierrez Highlights America’s Increasing Export Culture
Washington (April 13)–Commerce Secretary Carlos M. Gutierrez commented on the February Trade Report issued today, which shows that U.S. exports increased 10.1 percent to $250.8 billion during January and February 2007, compared to the same period in 2006. Imports increased by 3.0 percent to $368.1 billion and the trade deficit narrowed by 9.3 percent during the same period. (Statement) (Fact Sheet)

Washington (April 13)—At a wreath-laying ceremony today at the Thomas Jefferson Memorial, Commerce Secretary Carlos M. Gutierrez delivered keynote remarks to commemorate both the birthday of President Jefferson and the 200th anniversary of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, which Jefferson founded in 1807.
