The Autonomous Modular Scanner carried aboard NASA's Ikhana unmanned aircraft captured this image of the Gap Fire in Santa Barbara County, Calif., on July, 8 2008, at 3:45 p.m. Pacific Daylight Time. The yellow areas depict actively burning areas. The red, pink and blue tones map out burned areas. Multiple Calif. state agencies distributed the information to fire officials minutes after collection for analysis of new fire locations and fire size. All new fires are within the fire perimeter. NASA’s Autonomous Modular Scanner, onboard the Ikhana remotely-operated aircraft, captured fires over the Basin Fire Complex in Monterey County, Calif. on July 8, 2008, at 2:40 p.m. Pacific Daylight Time. The image has been overlaid onto terrain data within Google Earth to provide additional information to the fire managers on the effects of terrain on fire behavior. The yellow areas depict active fire areas with reds and purples showing burned over areas. Credit: NASA/Google
