The most important source for bibliography of books and articles concerning the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico is the annual Handbook of Latin American Studies (http://lcweb2.loc.gov/hlas/) produced by over 130 contributing editors under the editorship of the Hispanic Division of the Library of Congress. Additional coverage of journal articles can be found through a subscription to the Hispanic American Periodical Index (http://hapi.gseis.ucla.edu/).   Both the Handbook and HAPI are available in selected libraries in book form.   One of the major aggregators for links to a wide variety of subjects relating to regional resources for Latin America is the University of Texas' LANIC (http://lanic.utexas.edu/la/cb/other/pr/). The U.S. Census Bureau offers Census 2000 data for Puerto Rico. The bureau includes the demographic profile for the area, redistricting data, data on resident population, and data on congressional apportionment. Public Law 94-171 specifies that the bureau must send each state the data that could be used by the state to redraw federal, state, and local legislative districts.

The Census Bureau of the U.S. Department of Commerce presents the full text of "Census 2000 Profiles of General Demographic Characteristics." The profiles include statistics about the sex, age, race, household relationships, household type, group quarters population, housing occupancy, and housing tenure of individuals residing in the United States and Puerto Rico.
