Consumer inflation in 1997 at 11-year low

Factors underlying the slowdown in consumer prices during 1997 included falling prices for energy and moderating food costs. If food and energy are excluded, the index shows the smallest increase in 32 years. This article summarizes changes in Consumer Price Indexes in 1997.
