Jennifer Gardner, Steven Hipple, and Thomas Nardone
Economists, Division of Labor Force Statistics, Bureau of Labor Statistics

Employment rose substantially and unemployment declined in 1993. Nevertheless, parts of the work force still suffered from the adverse affects of the recent economic contraction. This article examines labor market developments during 1993 based on data from both the Current Employment Statistics (CES) survey and the Current Population Survey (CPS), emphasizing the interrelationship of those developments with trends in the economy.
