ABSTRACT

August 1989, Vol. 112, No. 8

How many new jobs since 1982? Data from two surveys differ

Paul O. Flaim
Chief of the Division of Labor Force Statistics, Office of Employment and Unemployment Statistics, Bureau of Labor Statistics

Employers have been reporting more job growth than is indicated by the household survey.  This divergence may reflect an increase in dual jobholding and in the employment of illegal aliens.  This article compares growth in employment as measured by the Current Population Survey and the Current Employment Statistics program from November 1982 to April 1989.
