Chief of Staff Claire Buchan

Claire Buchan serves as Chief of Staff to Secretary of Commerce Carlos M. Gutierrez, and was appointed February 16, 2005. Prior to assuming her post at the Department of Commerce, Claire served in the White House as Deputy Assistant to the President and Deputy Press Secretary. Before joining the White House, she was Vice President for Communications at ServiceMaster in Chicago. Previously, Claire served in President George H.W. Bush's administration as Deputy Assistant Secretary of Public Affairs at the Treasury Department, Press Secretary for the U.S. Trade Representative, and Deputy Communications Director at the Republican National Committee.

During the Reagan administration she worked at the Department of Commerce in the International Trade Administration. Before joining the Reagan administration, Claire served as Press Secretary for Congressman H. James Saxton. Claire is a graduate of Michigan State University.
